--The True Heart of More Than Words--

My name is Heather, and I have had the honor of being a part of the More Than Words team for almost 5 months now. I have completed my training, and am due for a performance review very soon. However, I am very distractable and often need to be refocused because, as a singer, I find it difficult to go through my day without randomly emitting a tune. I hum, whistle, or sing whenever I can, and often don’t realize I am doing it until I am asked to refocus on the task at hand. In fact, I am so musically minded that I feel most at home at More Than Words Open Mic nights. Performers from all over Boston come to our store to read or recite their poetry, prose and essays, sing songs, rap, and even perform comedy routines. I perform at every Open Mic, and always look forward to the next one. My friend and fellow More Than Words associate, Rey, performs under the name Michael Judgment Jackson. He focuses on Michael Jackson tributes, memorizing every moonwalk step, every twirl, every toe-stand, hat toss, and note. He has blown away every person who performs at and attends these events, including myself. Another friend of mine, who specializes in poetry, has only recently begun sharing his works with us. He recited a poem of his about unrequited love that moved multiple listeners to tears. There are others who perform, customers, who are equally talented, and all who perform are commended for their bravery. Young or old, singer or comedian, writer or dancer, performer or spectator, new to More Than Words or longtime employee, all are welcome, all are heard, and all are free to express themselves in their own way, free to be whoever, whatever, they want to be. All are a part of the heart and soul of More Than Words, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
