By Shanice. On October 6th, the co-founder of City Year, author of Big Citizenship, and former Senate candidate, Alan Khazei, visited us here at More Than Words. He spoke to us about his new book, Big Citizenship, and what it took to start City Year. My co-worker, Richard, and I were lucky enough to be the ones leading the Q&A session. From my experience interviewing Alan, he seemed very inspired by our bookstore. The main question that we wanted to ask him was "What is a big citizen?" He explained that to him, it is someone who stands up for what they believe in, works with others in their community to make change happen, and doesn't give up. Alan talked about how it's important to follow your dreams and that it's helpful to have a team when you're starting something so that you have others by your side who can help lead you to success. We want to apply the ideas that Alan talked about to our everyday life and really think deeply about what it means to be a big citizen. I want to give a sincere thank you to Alan Khazei for coming to MTW and sharing his inspiring story with us. Maybe in the future you will see More Than Words using the term "Big Citizen!"
