MTW Blog : MTW Blog - 3/23/10

added by mtwmanager 685 days ago under FrontPage

Blog by Devon. Last week, Francis & I, gave a tour of MTW to Jeffery Simon, the Director of Infastructure Development for Massachusetts, who is going around the state seeing how stimulus money is affecting people. The tour was a big deal - we got to show a very important man what More Than Words means to the community and to us youth. The tour started off as a normal tour, then we got into why we are here and how More Than Words has been helpful to our lives. Also, we got to show how the money from the stimulus, that people donate, and from customers in the store is real helpful and going to good use. More Than Words is a very important place for us youth to work and to change our lives.
We found out Mr. Simon wrote an article on the state blog! We want to thank Mr. Simon for coming to MTW, for the great article he wrote, and we want to share the article with all of you. So, read up on the blog post: A Cafe, a Bookstore, and a Path for a Life, & help spread the word by sharing with your friends.

Hello everyone at MTW! I am proud to say that this is my very FIRST blogging experience! I have read your web site and shopped at your store and st in on an Open Mic Night when I visited your area. I am from New York. I work with middle school students in a public school system. Lack of motivation and bad attitudes really discourage so many teachers. We try so many techniques to help our students so they will some day have the means to make a good life for themselves. Many times we want to throw up our hands and say, "Why bother?" Then you have a special moment that gives us a reality check as to why we do what we do!
I am so in awe of the MTW youth and their persistence and desire to embrace all the skills they are being taught and opportunities to make a life for themselves. I admire the staff's dedication, their care/concern about each of their youth, and their own personal sacrifices (long hours, longer meetings, frustrating red tape, "blood, sweat and tears" etc) to provide the youth with so many opportunities and skills.
Remember - this is a two-way street - youth and staff gain personal and professional growth through challenges and celebrations, no matter how big or small ( making a good cup of coffee or mastering an Excel spreadsheet).
To all at MTW--KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK YOU DO! Your lives are already richer!

Hi Mrs. P - Thanks so much for your kind words! It's wonderful to hear the experience of someone in the school system, and we are so happy that you read our blog and actively keep up with our team. If you are in the area again please stop by and introduce yourself, we would love to meet you! - The MTW Team
