Q. What is More Than Words? 

A. More Than Words (MTW) is youth-run online and retail bookstore and café that provides paid employment for youth to prepare for meaningful jobs and college! We support youth to develop and implement plans for the future including education, housing and career plans.

Q. Who Works at More Than Words?

A. The Youth who work at More Than Words are:

• Between 16 and 21
• Involved with the foster care system, are court involved, out-of-school, or homeless;
• Are ready to use the opportunity and additional support not typically found at other businesses

Q. How Long Would I Work at More Than Words?

A. 6 to 12 months.  MTW can help you gain skills and transition to:

• Colleges & Training Programs:  Such as Pine Manor College, UMASS Dartmouth, Brandeis University, Job Corps, and Year Up
• Retail and Hospitality Jobs:  Including bookstores, cafes, banks, hotels and hospitals
• MTW provides additional support for a year after working at the bookstore and café to provide you with any needed support in your future jobs, college and life!

Q. What would I do at More Than Words?

A.   You would receive training to:

• Process and ship book orders over the internet
• Manage the register and sections of the bookstore while providing excellent customer service
• Plan and oversee events such as our monthly open mic night
• Manage the café and serve customers
• Facilitate meetings, interview and train future employees
• Set goals for your future and work on action steps to take charge of your life
