About The Training Institute:
To affect sustained social change for our most vulnerable, we must disrupt the traditional social service model and move toward a more effective one of social enterprise. The More Than Words (MTW) 3 day training will dive deep into 3 foundational areas vital to empowering individual transformation through social enterprise:
The training will provide strategies, tools and techniques that participants can hone and implement in their work. This training is designed for those new to the field of social enterprise who are eager to learn as well as experienced professionals ready to exchange practices within a social enterprise community. We are pleased to be able to offer these trainings multiple times during the course of the year. All classes are taught by the senior leadership team at MTW.
About the Organization:
For the past 15 years More Than Words has built and refined a model that has empowered our community’s most vulnerable young people—those who are in the foster care system, court-involved, homeless or out of school—to transform their lives through the power of social enterprise. By learning to run their own retail and online book business, our youth are able to generate over $3.2 million in revenue while also working towards earning diplomas, enrolling in college, and securing employment.
More Than Words believes that a successful social enterprise that leads to real change in people’s lives must have a reciprocal and integrated focus on both the people and the business. In order to engage youth to transform their lives, it is vital that MTW runs a legitimate and robust business. And, in order to run a successful and rigorous business, we must authentically and deeply engage and empower our young people. We can’t do one without the other. And, tying it all together is a fanatical focus on data, evaluation and learning to ensure we get results for both.
